BUILDING BRIDGES OF DEMOCRACY IN THE ALPS
✤ We are an International Association
✤ We promote the knowledge and culture of the Alpine region
✤ We focus specifically on mobility to connect the people through the Alps
WHO INSPIRES US?
Our journey follows the footsteps of the British explorer, journalist, and writer Charles Lincoln Freeston, who first opened up the highlands to individual transportation.
Between 1895 and 1910, during the so-called Belle Époque, he traversed our beloved Alps first on a bicycle and later with the earliest automotive.
He conquered a total of 177 mountain passes, on dusty and often rugged roads.
And do you know where it all began...? From one of his bets...
THE BOOK
We have retraced Freeston's adventure by presenting his travel guide, 'The High-Roads of the Alps,' in a bilingual Italian-English volume that includes:
✤ The original English edition from 1910
✤ Its first and only Italian translation
✤ The first documented biography of our hero
✤ A comprehensive historical and cultural framework.
The work is titled 'In Auto sulle Alpi – Driving through the Alps', and the authors are Andrea Lazzarini and Giuliana Lonardi.
HOW DID ALPINESHOWROOM COME ABOUT?
With the 1910 diary on the dashboard, we retraced Freeston's steps up and down the Alps, from Monte Carlo to Venice, gradually discovering more about him.
We experienced firsthand the importance of his journey, the breadth of his vision, and the relevance of his values.
And how the Alps truly represent a meeting point between peoples and fertile ground for today's and tomorrow's Europe.
Living this dimension led us to create AlpineShowroom: a showcase (a showroom) of the pioneers' vision.
